What is Hot Work?

Working with ignition sources near flammable materials is referred to as “hot work.” Welding, soldering, and cutting are examples of hot work. Fires are often the result in areas not intended for welding or cutting. It is important to have fire watch monitors in place when hot work begins .

The fire watch (spark watch) Is a very significant role in construction sites, manufacturing units, Pulp & Paper industry, Solid wood industry, Mining industry, Engineered wood products, Pellet plants, servicing, welding areas, and other environments where work processes can potentially generate sparks, heat, or flames, all of which require emergency services.

To effectively fulfill their duties, individuals in fire watch positions must undergo comprehensive formal training. This training covers fire safety, safety permits, the use of firefighting equipment, emergency response procedures, and hazard communication.
